The dried rhizome and root of this orchid have been used as a stimulating
tonic, antispasmodic, and tranquilizer for alcoholic d.t.'s;
in insomnia, nervousness, and hysteria; and as a diaphoretic, anodyne,
and vermifuge. The oil is thought to paralyze the brain.
The roots can cause psychedelic reactions and, in large does, giddiness,
restlessness, headache, mental excitement, and visual hallucinations.
